Allied Health Group facilitator - Art Therapist / Occupational therapist

 

  • Permanent Part-Time | 48 hours per fortnight

About the role

 

The Allied Health Group facilitator plays a key role in embedding discipline specific therapeutic interventions within a structured program of recovery-focused activities in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) inpatient setting.  This role is central to supporting consumers during detoxification and early recovery through the delivery of evidence-informed group and individual interventions.    

Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, the Allied Health Group facilitator collaborates with consumers to support their recovery journey, with a focus on trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care.  This includes the intersection of trauma, mental health and wellbeing, and co-occurring substance use.

 

About you 

 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Either:  
  • Approved Masters in Art Therapy or other qualification approved for membership of The Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Therapies Association (ANZACATA) or PACFA membership  
  • Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency.  
  • A minimum of 12 months post graduate experience as a registered Occupational Therapist in mental health and or AOD 
  • Experience in inpatient or withdrawal/detox settings. 
  • Experience facilitating group therapy sessions, conducting assessments, and working with individuals with substance use disorders. 
  • Ability to apply discipline specific professional knowledge and judgment in the provision of creative/ recreational group facilitation 
  • For occupational therapists:  an understanding of evidenced based practice and models of occupational therapy (including Occupational Formulation, the Model of Human Occupation and Canadian Model of Occupational Participation), related occupational assessment and their application in clinical practice. 
  • Ability to contribute to and deliver an efficient and effective creative/occupational model of service to AOD consumers  
  • Knowledge of group therapy theories, techniques, and dynamics, including facilitation skills, group process, stages of group development, and strategies for managing group interactions.  
  • Knowledge and the ability to provide effective interventions including emotional regulation and sensory interventions with consumers with substance us, mental health and trauma 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to work with consumers, carers and families within a recovery framework 
  • Experience in working with consumers with mental illness and co- occurring disorders 
  • Ability to work autonomously and to work within a multidisciplinary team 
  • A demonstrated commitment to learning through analysis of own performance, engaging in clinical supervision and professional development, and a commitment to applying new knowledge to practice 
  • To possess good interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to prepare and deliver written and verbal reports of a high standard 
  • Ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of a high standard 

Desirable 

  • Post graduate qualifications in addiction, mental health or a related field 
  • Experience working in the AOD field or additional certifications in addiction counselling or group therapy are highly regarded. 

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
